Elephant Butte Lake, Caballo Lake, Turtleback Mountain and nearby Gila National Forest allow water sports, swimming, fishing, hiking, biking, rock climbing, and horseback riding.

The Truth or Consequences Downtown Hot Springs area is a short distance away and features gift shops, health food stores, restaurants, the Geronimo Springs Museum, bookstores, and several art galleries. Other nearby attractions include Spaceport America, The Bosque Del Apache Wildlife Refuge, White Sands National Monument, Gila Cliff Dwellings, City of Rocks, Ski Apache, The Very Large Array, Lincoln National Forest, The Space Museum, nearby Ghost Towns, and Mexican border shopping. Local community events include the Truth or Consequences Fiesta, Fiddlers Contest, Balloon Regatta, Hillsboro Apple Festival, Hatch Chile Festival, Cuchillo Pecan Festival, Chile Cookoff, and tournaments for bass fishing, and golf.

Geronimo Springs Museum contains the history of Sierra County, New Mexico. From the mammoth and mastodon skulls and the world-class collection of prehistoric Mimbres pottery to the Apache, Hispanic, military, mining, ranching, and cultural exhibits, the Museum is a fascinating complex of historical artifacts. Each of several rooms represents a specific subject of history, with displays and artifacts interpreted so that the viewer can understand the items exhibited.
